Developer Crystal Dynamics set out to rectify both of these problems by completely rebooting the franchise, dropping any subtitles in favor of a simple name indicative of a fresh start: Tomb Raider. Few reboots deserve to have a title with a name that carries so much promise, but this is definitely one of them.

Gamers owe much to Tomb Raider. They can thank Lara Croft for ushering in and making female protagonists popular and helping to influence some of the AAA titles gamers enjoy today such as Uncharted and Assassins Creed. This entry in the Tomb Raider series is more of a reboot of the series from the beginning. Crystal Dynamics revamps what gamers thought they knew about Lara Croft in this entry and brings everything to the table: story, action, puzzles, and adventure.

A Survivor is born. Rebooting a series is always a risky prospect. Change too much and people hate you, change too little and people will also hate you. Can a developer ever win? Well, maybe not. You cant please everyone as the old adage goes but despite this Crystal Dynamics has managed to create one of the best gaming experiences of this year or recent memory.

Title of Tomb Raider sequel unearthed?
Filed by Square Enix's UK office last week (spotted by Siliconera), the trademark's description suggests that the name could be related to an unannounced Tomb Raider title or an "online computer game service".
Siliconera, however, speculates that Reflections could be the name of an epilogue planned for this month's Tomb Raider, despite comments from the series' global brand director Karl Stewart earlier this week suggesting that single-player DLC was off the cards.
So, could the name be linked to a Tomb Raider sequel? Last year, Crystal Dynamics told VideoGamer.com...

GR's Daniel Hill writes:
There's no question about it - Tomb Raider is back. With Crystal Dynamics knocking one out of the park with its reboot of the nearly irrelevant (not anymore!) franchise, there is no question that Lara's presence will soon be a regular thing once again in the gaming world. While I absolutely adored every moment spent with this game and with it being well-received by DeShaun, there are still a few things I would love to see included/improved upon in the inevitable sequel.

"Tomb Raider, the recent release from Crystal Dynamics, was billed as an origin story (and debatable) reboot for the franchise. I sat down with our reviewer (check out his review here) along with some other staff and a guest to discuss the game, its relationship to the franchise history, and what we hope to see from Lara in the future."

As it stands, Crystal Dynamics has no plans to extend Tomb Raider's single-player experience with additional downloadable content.
Karl Stewart, the studio's global brand manager, shared the news during a Reddit 'Ask Me Anything', noting that all future DLC will be multiplayer-related. "There are currently no plans in place for any Single Player expansions. All of our DLC is based around the Multiplayer experience for now," he said.
